Student thesis [Artistic work]
Abstract [en]
The purpose of this essay was to examine how I, as a theatre director, can challenge traditional methods for creation and find new ways to communicate and lead interdisciplinary collaborations and processes. The text discusses my experience working as a director for my final production Krisevangelier, which was performed at SKH 3-6 may 2024. Through my experience of working with the project I discovered how I can collaborate with the different artistic designers in my team and performers on stage whilst challenging traditional text based ways of working with theatre. Through methods like biomechanics, viewpoints, montage theory, musical theory and Action Analysis I found ways to work with a very psysical staging with movement, dance, text and circus as well as strong visual dramaturgy and symbolic language. Documentation of my process consist of an early process diary, notes from presentations and rehearsals, a list of reference material and filmed improvisations and performances. The essay shows that there are alternative ways to create a theatre piece and relate to the written text whilst working, both during the preperational stages and repetitions. Which is important to show that there are multiple ways to work as a director of performing arts and that the most vital part of being an artist is finding your own way and creating your own path if there is no existing one.
