This Master dissertation explores new connections between juggling and music. Both are art forms in which a person and one or more objects communicate or express themselves together on stage. Both, the performer and the objects are equally in focus.

These artists often experience an intense relationship with their objects and make them the centre of work, if not the centre of life.

Me, as a juggler, seeing musicians on stage or in circus shows, I have often wished for more attention for the object ‘musical instrument’  in addition to its capability to produce sound.

As a director, I now took the musical instrument as starting point with the aim to create an interdisciplinary performance. Seven musicians and one circus artist participated in several artistic experiments. Finally, a new performative format was developed and staged called Concertcircus.

Diese Masterarbeit untersucht neue Verbindungen zwischen Jonglage und Musik. Beides sind Kunstformen, bei denen eine Person und ein oder mehrere Objekte zusammen auf der Bühne stehen und sich gemeinsam ausdrücken. Mensch und Objekt stehen dabei gleichermaßen im Fokus.

Diese Künstler:innen erleben oft eine intensive Beziehung zu ihren Objekten und machen sie zum Mittelpunkt ihrer Arbeit, wenn nicht sogar zum Mittelpunkt ihres Lebens.

Als Jongleurin habe ich mir bei Auftritten von Musiker:innen oft gewünscht, dass dem Objekt „Musikinstrument” mehr Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt würde, zusätzlich zu seiner Fähigkeit Klang zu erzeugen.

Als Regisseurin nahm ich nun das Musikinstrument als Ausgangspunkt, mit dem Ziel, eine interdisziplinäre Performance zu kreieren. Sieben Musiker:innen und eine Circus Artistin nahmen an mehreren künstlerischen Experimenten teil. So entstand ein neues performatives Format Concertcircus und eine erste Inszenierung.
