From this thesis I have explored the possibilities, opportunities and limitations that comes with working with the embodiment of a character on stage focusing on a gender-perspective. I have chosen this subject because it is something that everyone - knowingly or not - relates to in everyday life and is a subject that also follows the actor through their character on stage and through the visual designs that includes masks, makeup, costume, voice, body language and so on. This text includes analyses and experiences working with the embodiment of a wide representation of gender through the characters with the four actors assigned to this project - two who identifies as female going by pronoun “she” and with two who identifies as non-binary and goes by pronoun “they/them”.
