For my thesis I have set out to explore the liminal space between naturalism/heightened embodiment and realism/surrealism. I come from a background in the visual arts field, and I have always been interested in what happens in the spaces in between, when we try to define things. The human brain is wired to recognize patterns in the environment, to separate the bush from a dangerous animal is crucial for survival. Had it not been for this, I wouldn’t be sitting here today. I would like to propose that in between these things that we can categorize and define, there are other categories of things harder to define, or that are undefineable. What happens in these spaces - where we cannot exactly define what is going on? If we go down deep enough everything turns out to be unique, and in that case - is there even a point in trying to define them? I don’t know, but it seemed like fun and a useful task to explore.
