Abstract [en]

Breathing in opera singing is a complex subject, but understanding of it can be deepened through analysis. Effective singing breathing is based on deep, low breathing with expansion in the lower parts of the torso, combined with controlled activation of the abdominal muscles, which provides a stable airflow. Different traditions of vocal pedagogy essentially describe the same physiological processes, but in different ways. The conclusion is that there is no single correct method, but rather a spectrum of approaches based on common principles: a relaxed throat and deep breathing. Two main approaches: Pull your stomach in and let the breath out. Expand – maintain the expansion. The aim is the same – a free, steady flow of air.
